Wellington Region

Wellington is firmly established as the Cuisine Capital of New Zealand.  Home to the country's top restaurants and bars, and one of the best wine growing areas, the region's food and wine scene is sophisticated, stylish and innovative.

The celebrated vineyards of Martinborough region and Kapiti Coast’s horticulture and market garden industry are just an hour from the city of Wellington.  Weekend markets can be enjoyed throughout the region where you can sample locally produced artisan fare like boutique wine, infused oils, cheeses and gelato.

From our well-established coffee roasters, to emerging microbreweries and hand-crafted chocolates you’ll be spoilt for choice.

Any time of year is a great time to sample Wellington’s fare, but if you really want to be a part of Wellington’s food scene and sample the delights and passion of the region, you can’t go past the two-week celebration of gastronomy held each August through the Visa Wellington On a Plate food festival - it’s two weeks of pure indulgence!
