On our 680 acre organic farm in Hawkes Bay we raise certified Organic Beef and lamb, wool and feijoas. We have planted over 7,000 trees to date and are trying to restore some native bush. The wood pigeons are coming back. I have always loved working in the soil and on the land. As a fellow human being my aim is to walk gently and provide healthy food. After harvest the fruit is taken to special processors who wash, slice, create and package to bring you a yummie feijoa treat all year round. I moved here from Vermont (USA) 21 years ago, tasted a feijoa and fell in love. Love is powerful; I learned all I could about feijoas and planted 2000 trees. In studying the market and export potential, I came up with the idea of freeze dried wedges and powder, Frozen free flow whole peeled, puree and essence.
Why this food? Because the feijoa is undiscovered everywhere else in the word (except Brazil where it is native). I believe the feijoa will be the next super-food: full of bio-actives (antifungal, anti bacterial, anti-inflammatory), lots of Vit C and K. and so tasty and extremely unique. Harvest is a great time, lots of wonderful helpers and green yummie gems filling the bins as the day progresses. We never tire of snacking on the feijoas. Loading the bins on to the ute, and off they go to the processor. There have been many challenges and the learning curve is steep. But the satisfaction comes when someone says YUM, or a young child gives the thumbs up! When I spray the feijoa essence on some one’s face - the smile is always huge. We are committed to organic foods. The demand for pure clean GM - free organic food has increased steadily over the last 20 years. And this will continue.
