Here at Waiheke Herbs, we endeavour to create the freshest, best quality herbal products from ingredients sourced locally and organic where possible. Our organic herb gardens here on Waiheke Island supply some of our herbs, with the rest being supplied by local or NZ growers and organic suppliers. Founder Wendy Kendall, developed this business from her life-long passion for healthy living, herbs, and growing fresh organic food after years of studying herbalism, wild/native herbs, nutrition and natural skincare. After moving to Waiheke Island in 1993, she began experimenting with locally grown fresh and wild herbs to create a healthy spread for her young family. Encouraged by friends to produce her spread ‘seriously’, she spent a year observing which herbs could be sourced year-round, and in 2004 took her first batch to sell at the local Farmer’s Market - selling out immediately!
Waiheke Herb Spread is now our best-selling and award winning product. This unique blend of traditional and wild fresh herbs in olive oil is similar to a pesto, but without nuts or cheese. Not only is it a versatile and delicious condiment made from herbs harvested within 24 hours of our weekly production (every week of the year!) it is suitable for vegetarians, vegans or those with allergies. Our factory operates at Rangihoua Estate - the largest and most internationally acclaimed olive oil producer on Waiheke Island. Waiheke Herb Spread has won both a Cuisine Artisan Award 2017 and a Silver Medal in the Outstanding Food Producers awards 2018. Add flavour, nutrition and the healing power of herbs to almost any savoury dish or recipe such as soups, stews, bread, crackers+cheese, roast vegetables, antipasto platters, bread, dips, salad dressings, pizza, pasta etc!
